Document Editor .NET API
Product Page | Docs | Demos | API Reference | Examples | Blog | Releases | Free Support | Temporary License
It is a .NET API that enhances your apps to perform document, spreadsheets, DSV & XML files editing operations for a wide range of file formats.
What's New in v.24.8.0
New Features and Enhancements:
- Refactored Document Format Class: Introduced improvements to the
Formats.IDocumentFormat
class to resolve issues encountered in Node.js environments. This refactor enhances compatibility and stability when using GroupDocs.Editor across different platforms, particularly in web-based applications (EDITORNET-2823). - Flexible Editor Constructors: Added new constructors for the
Editor
class, providing developers with more options when initializing the Editor instance. These constructors allow for better customization and flexibility in document editing workflows:Editor(DocumentFormatBase)
: Create a new empty document based on a specified format.Editor(Stream)
: Initialize an Editor instance using a document from a stream.Editor(Stream, ILoadOptions)
: Initialize an Editor instance with stream input and specific load options.Editor(string, ILoadOptions)
: Initialize an Editor instance using a file path and load options.
Deprecation of Obsolete Constructors:
- The following constructors have been marked as obsolete and will be removed in future releases to streamline the API:
Editor(Func<Stream>)
Editor(Func<Stream>, Func<ILoadOptions>)
Editor(string, Func<ILoadOptions>)
Bug Fixes:
- HTML Document Background Color Issue: Fixed a critical bug where an exception was thrown when saving an edited HTML document that had a background color applied to the text. This fix ensures that HTML documents with customized styles are saved correctly without errors (EDITORNET-2819).
Public API Changes:
- The newly added constructors provide more robust options for document creation and editing, offering greater control over how documents are loaded and processed within the GroupDocs.Editor environment.

Load, Edit & Save Multi-tab Spreadsheet via C# Code
//1. Get a path to the input file (or stream with file content).
//In this case it is sample XLSX (OOXML) with two tabs.
string inputFilePath = Constants.SAMPLE_XLSX;
//2. Load it into Editor instance from stream
using(FileStream inputStream = File.OpenRead(inputFilePath)) {
using(Editor editor = new Editor(delegate {
return inputStream;
}, delegate {
return new SpreadsheetLoadOptions();
})) {
//3. Let's create an intermediate EditableDocument from 1st tab
SpreadsheetEditOptions editOptions1 = new SpreadsheetEditOptions();
editOptions1.WorksheetIndex = 0; //index is 0-based
EditableDocument firstTabBeforeEdit = editor.Edit(editOptions1);
//4. Let's create an intermediate EditableDocument from 2nd tab
SpreadsheetEditOptions editOptions2 = new SpreadsheetEditOptions();
editOptions2.WorksheetIndex = 1; //index is 0-based
EditableDocument secondTabBeforeEdit = editor.Edit(editOptions2);
//5. Save first tab from EditableDocument #1 to separate document
SpreadsheetSaveOptions saveOptions1 = new SpreadsheetSaveOptions(SpreadsheetFormats.Xlsm);
string outputFilename1 = Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(inputFilePath) + "_tab1.xlsm";
string outputPath1 = Path.Combine(Constants.GetOutputDirectoryPath(), outputFilename1);
editor.Save(firstTabBeforeEdit, outputPath1, saveOptions1);
//6. Save the second tab from EditableDocument #2 to separate document
SpreadsheetSaveOptions saveOptions2 = new SpreadsheetSaveOptions(SpreadsheetFormats.Xlsb);
string outputFilename2 = Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(inputFilePath) + "_tab2.xlsb";
string outputPath2 = Path.Combine(Constants.GetOutputDirectoryPath(), outputFilename2);
editor.Save(secondTabBeforeEdit, outputPath2, saveOptions2);
//7. Dispose both EditableDocument instances
firstTabBeforeEdit.Dispose();
secondTabBeforeEdit.Dispose();
}
}
