Expression Welder
Why?
You need to build predicate expression trees by combining two dynamically generated
expression trees, and you cannot pass an Expression<Func<T, bool>>
to Any()
or All()
.
What does this library do?
Provides two functions Joint
and Weld
.
Joint
- takes a predicate expression tree and returns a predicate. This is primarily used byWeld
to combine the expressions, however, the returned predicate will lazily compile, and invoke the original predicate expression tree.Weld
- takes a predicate expression and replaces any calls toJoint
with the original expression.
Example
record Item(string Field);
record Doc(Item[] Items);
// you have some function that returns a predicate for your item
Expression<Func<Item, bool>> MakeItemPredicate(string value)
{
return item => item.Field == value;
}
// this won't work
// Expression<Func<Doc, bool>> pred = x => x.Items.Any(MakeItemPredicate("foo"));
// but this will
var itemPredicate = MakeItemPredicate("foo");
Expression<Func<Doc, bool>> pred = Welder.Weld<Doc>(x => x.Items.Any(Welder.Joint(itemPredicate)));
